Tighter EU import duties and quotas
The European Union has announced that it will extend the safeguard measures on steel imports until July 2026.

In addition:

• Import quotas will be applied more strictly.

• This will limit the influx of cheap road plates from countries such as Turkey, India, and China, which will drive up prices in Europe.

Doubling of import duties outside the EU
The EU is increasing import duties on steel from non-EU countries from 25% to 50%. This makes foreign road plates considerably more expensive and strengthens the position of European producers, who can raise their prices.

Higher production costs in Europe
European road plate manufacturers are facing rising costs due to:

• More expensive energy,

• Stricter environmental regulations,

• Restructuring in the sector. These costs are partially passed on to customers.

Stock shortages and cautious increase in demand
Due to low prices in 2025, many customers have reduced their stocks. If demand picks up in early 2026, this could lead to shortages in the market for road plates, resulting in price increases.

Strategic value of road plates in construction and infrastructure
RRoad plates are essential in temporary infrastructure, earthmoving, and construction projects. As construction activity picks up, demand for these products rises relatively quickly, which increases price sensitivity.
